Problem:Some specific setup is required to be able to send invitations from within iCal and, at times it may be useful to know how iCal and Groupcal interact when sending invitations.
Solution:
The behavior described herein applies to Groupcal 3.34 and newer.
Before you can send event/meeting invitations from within iCal, some setup is required:
- you must create a card for yourself in Address Book
- Apple (i.e., OS X's) Mail must be configured so it can send email
For more information, see iCal's Help documentation.
Groupcal modifies iCal to enable Groupcal to receive meeting invitations from iCal (by installing an edited Mail.scpt file in iCal).
Groupcal first attempts to post the event and send an invitation in "real time" via Exchange. If that's not possible (e.g., the network/server is temporarily unavailable), then Groupcal reverts to iCal's normal strategy and sends the invitation via Apple Mail and posts the event to Exchange during the next sync operation.
