Problem:Some communications between iCal and Mail are handled via an AppleScript program (Mail.scpt) and those communications are important to Groupcal. Altering the Groupcal-installed Mail.scpt file may cause Groupcal to have problems with invitations.
Background:
iCal contains an AppleScript program (/Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/Mail.scpt) that participates in sending invitations from within iCal (the source-code is /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/Mail.applescript).
When Groupcal is installed, it saves iCal's original Mail.scpt file as /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/Mail.scpt.backup and installs a modified version of the file as /Applications/iCal.app/Contents/Resources/Mail.scpt. The modified Mail.scpt causes iCal to send invitations to Groupcal instead of Mail.
The Groupcal installer also checks to ensure that the currently installed Mail.scpt file is either the original for that version of iCal or one that Groupcal has installed and informs the user if that is not the case.
Solution:
Various forum postings contain procedures that change iCal's Mail.scpt file. Any changes, including only recompiling the Mail.scpt file have the potential to cause the failure of Groupcal's handling of iCal invitations.
Groupcal is tested using only its modified Mail.scpt file.
We strongly recommend that you do not change the Mail.scpt file:
- if there's a problem with invitations that originate in iCal, please create a support Ticket
- if there's a problem with other aspects that you suspect might involve iCal's Mail.scpt, please file a bug report with Apple
If you do modify the Mail.scpt file, you will be responsible for ensuring that Groupcal works correctly with the changes.
